Barker, Ariann. “The N Word (And Why Non-Black People Can’t Say It)”. 2015, Affinity Magazine.
When discussing the N word and what group is able to use it, the perspectives are usually monochrome. Throughout history and recent times, there have been influxes of many different ethnic groups who’s youth come ready to embrace the modern pop culture the country has to offer at the time. Included in today’s “modern pop culture” if referring to the music industry, we include many genres but the the most controversial in my opinion is rap. How do we explain to millions of Asian Americans, Latino Americans, etc, that although they may hear it in on the radio, or TV, or maybe even used by their Black friends, using the N word is considered a prejudice term when used by them?
